The Dead or Alive fighting game franchise has never gotten quite the same kind of street cred as Street Fighter or Tekken–possibly because of the whole beach volleyball thing–but it will soon have one big selling point for those of us north of the 49th parallel: a Canadian character.
A new character named Rig was revealed in the latest issue of Famitsu and, well, we don’t know much about him. We do know that he hails from Canada–no saying whether he’s Quebecois, a Newfie, a prairie guy, or a West Coaster, but whatever–and that his fighting style is Korean taekwondo.
As a refresher, Dead or Alive 5 will have a “rock paper scissors” fighting interruption system. Strikes beat throws, throws beat holds, and holds beat strikes. Play up those mind games! It’s set to hit PS3 and Xbox 360 this September.
Street Fighter X Tekken? King of Fighters XIII? Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3? AE2012? Yes, these are all great games and they are great tournament fodder, but one of the biggest highlights for the upcoming EVO 2012 has to be the Tournament of Legends.
They’re reviving Super Street Fighter II Turbo. Appropriately enough Super Turbo Revival is the one who is hosting the whole shi-bang and they’re inviting all sorts of Super Turbo legends like Daigo, Tokido, Alex Valle and Jumpsuit. They’ve got special invitees, as well as people who qualified through special tournaments.
Check out the trailer and we’ll see you in Las Vegas next month!
I have no words. After all, it goes with everything… Easy operation.
