Street Fighter IV Officially Announced
Street Fighter IV. Official trailer. I think I just soiled myself.
What better way to kick off the launch of this fighting games blog than with the official announcement from Capcom of Street Fighter IV. What you see above is the stylized trailer shown at Gamer’s Day in London, giving us a glimpse into what the official fourth series within the franchise has to offer. You know, because Street Fighter II is like a series in and of itself. I guess if you count Street Fighter Alpha/Zero, then Street Fighter 4 is really the fifth series…
Anyways, Street Fighter’s best known characters — Ryu and Ken — are featured in the anime-style trailer, but there is no gameplay video found within.
Whatever you do Capcom, please, please keep it 2D. That whole Street Fighter EX three-dimensional nonsense was just stupid and poorly executed. If Street Fighter IV truly delivers, we could be on our way to Street Fighter IV 3rd Strike Hyper Fighting Edition in no time. And I couldn’t be happier.
Capcom failed to mention which systems they are targeting, but I think it’s safe to assume that we’ll find a version for the arcade, a version for the PS3 and a version for the Xbox 360. My gut reaction is that the Wii will be left out in the cold for this one.

[…] Street Fighter IV was officially announced earlier this year and we spotted some leaked screenshots shortly afterward. The artwork looked pretty epic, but now that a few more images have become available, we’re starting to get a little disappointed with the direction they’ve taken with Street Fighter IV. Nowhere is this shift more apparent than in the creation of Ryu. […]

[…] Street Fighter IV was originally announced way back in October 2007 and since then, Capcom has been slowly leaking out tidbits of information for the fighting game public. We’ve seen an incredibly muscular and bulgy Ryu, the re-emergence of some retro favorites, and the introduction of a luchadore too. […]
