Fighting Games Update: 9/21/08

Street Fighter IV is already looking to be pretty freaking awesome, but it just got even more incredible with the introduction of Akuma as a playable character. You can see him in action on YouTube. Don’t worry, he doesn’t suffer from SNK Boss Syndrome, so he’s surprisingly not unbeatable, unlike Shin Akuma (super Akuma?) in Capcom vs. SNK 2.
Speaking of SNK, we’ve caught word that The King of Fighters XII should be available for play some time this month, if it isn’t already available already. The graphics are supposed to be largely hand-drawn, amazing enough, so get ready for some absolutely incredible eye candy.
When you set things like fireballs and sonic booms aside, one of the most impressive video game franchises has to be Tekken. It’s very technical, but it’s surprisingly realistic (for a video game). Get ready for more, because Tekken 6 Bloodline Rebellion is on the way. Is this update going to be similar to Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection?
Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is getting joined by Joker and Green Lantern. Unfortunately, it’s going to be the “classic” Joker rather than the one played by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Even if it’s not over the top violent, you have to admit that Joker’s fatality is pretty cool. Check it out in the video below. It’s near the end.
Akuma Enters Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix

As we anxiously await the arrival of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix (can the name get any longer?) on both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, Capcom has provided us with a very fascinating piece of information. In addition to faithful standbys like Ryu and Ken, we’ve also got the extra intense hadouken and shoryuken of Akuma.
We all know that the legendary Akuma (known as Gouki in Japan) is far more powerful than the epic fail known as Dan Hibiki, so I’m glad to see the the demon figure is making an appearance in the game. Somehow it doesn’t seem fair that you’ll be able to control such power through a newbie mode though, don’t you think?
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix is scheduled for release this summer.
