Evil Ryu - Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition

Yes. Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition has been confirmed to have Evil Ryu and Oni (Shin Akuma). Crazy. There are a bunch of videos on YouTube should you feel so inclined too.

Oni (Shin Akuma) - Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition

If you like the Mad Catz Tournament Stick and want to use it for the upcoming Mortal Kombat, you can. They’re releasing a new FightStick panel that is more suitable to the traditional MK button layout.

Liu Kang for Mortal Kombat

Speaking of Mortal Kombat, Liu Kang was recently added to the roster. No surprise there. He’s like the Ryu of the series. That’s in addition to Kratos, Goro, and Jade, though some DLC characters are possible too. The release date’s been set for April 19, 2011.

Jay-Cee (JC) for Tekken Tag 2

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is shaping up to be even more interesting. As it turns out, you’ll actually get items that you can use to attack your opponent. There’s also something called “rage mode” that functions differently for each character. They’re also include destructible environments, it seems, as you can break walls. The new character above, a female luchadore (luchadora?) who plays much like El Fuerte or El Blaze, is named JayCee (or possibly JC).

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 PDP GamePad (Hadouken Online)

Oh, and what else? Right. MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 3 IS GETTING RELEASED NEXT WEEK! I can’t wait! Check out the Akuma montage and Galactus boss videos below.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Announced at TGS

Namco dropped a huge bomb on us at the Tokyo Game Show, revealing Tekken Tag Tournament 2 with the trailer embedded below. Yes, the tag-team combat mechanic is back and it’s looking better than ever.

This is just a teaser trailer and isn’t necessarily representative of the final product, but it does seem to reveal a few critical elements. As before, each tag team seems to consist of two characters. Second, it seems that it’s allowing for combos that involve both characters, hot swapping with air juggles and even doing some tandem moves to boot. This looks really exciting and the “switching” mechanic could be somewhat similar to Marvel vs. Capcom 3 or even the tag mode in the new Mortal Kombat. Crazy.

There seems to be a heck of a lot going on with the Tekken universe these days. We’ve got Street Fighter X Tekken coming from Capcom, Tekken X Street Fighter coming from Namco, and now the new Tekken Tag Tournament 2 too. That’s a lot of iron fisting!

P.S. They announced a 2011 release date for arcades in Japan, but no mention of a release date for other markets nor for the major consoles, though both are very likely in the works too.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Street Fighter X Tekken, and More Fighting Game News

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Other Fighting Game News

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is shaping up to be one crazy crossover fighting game with all loads of cool characters, including a non-human character from Okami. But Dante from Devil May Cry will be the character with the largest number of special moves. Does that make him the most powerful? Not necessarily.

And the crossover fighting game genre isn’t quitting there. A Street Fighter producer thinks a Tekken vs. Virtua Fighter game is an obvious choice. They both do the 3D fighting thing, after all.

On the flip side, a dev from the Mortal Kombat team says another crossover is inevitable: Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter. How would Shao Khan match up against, say, Akuma or Gouken?

Tekken X Street Fighter

Speaking of crossovers, we’ve all heard about Street Fighter X Tekken, but what about the sister game from Namco? Well, here’s our first look at Tekken X Street Fighter, but only the Ryu 3D model. What do you think? Yay or nay?

In related Street Fighter news, another Tournament Stick about to hit shelves and Super Street Fighter IV Arcade will indeed have more characters than the console version. DLC, anyone? Rumors are pointing toward Rolento and Alex.

Mortal Kombat

What about Mortal Kombat? No, not the original, but the all new game still being heralded by Ed Boon? It’s looking pretty good.

First, it’s being promised as really bloody and the more characters have been announced: Cyrax, Kano, Sonya, Jax, Smoke, Kitana and Liu Kang.

The current schedule is pointing toward a 2011 release. The devs have said that they’re including the ability to “tweak” the game balance post-release without requiring full game patches too.
