All About Super Street Fighter IV (Part 2)

Super Street Fighter IV

Three months ago, we presented our Super Street Fighter IV FAQ. Not surprisingly, a lot of new stuff has popped up since then. Let’s run through some of the details.

1. When’s the Release Date?

Early estimates had the Super Street Fighter IV launch on March 31, but the official release date has now been announced as April 27, 2010. This is for the Xbox 360 and PS3, both of which should be affordably priced. The PC version will probably come later.

2. Who Are the New Characters?

We’re hearing that there will be ten new characters in all, but we only know six of them for sure: Juri (Korean Tae Kwon Do girl), Deejay, T. Hawk, Guy, Cody, and Adon.

3. What Does the Box Art Look Like?

Like this, at least for the American Xbox 360 version. You get Juri, Ryu and Chun-Li across the top with Adon, Cammy, and Deejay lining the bottom. The Super Street Fighter IV logo goes in the center. The Japanese PS3 version looks better, don’t you think?

4. What Are Some of the New Features?

Each character will have a choice of three costumes, including a Mecha-Zangief, a Bison-inspired Cammy, and a blinged-out Balrog. Each character will also have two ultra moves instead of just one. You can watch this video for a look at some of these. The “smash the car” bonus stage is also making its return.

5. Do You Have Any Cool Super Street Fighter IV Videos?

Of course I do! Check ‘em out.

Street Fighter IV Is Here!!!

sfiv-release

In case you didn’t notice the hordes of geeks outside EB Games this morning, Street Fighter IV launched today in the United States! Unfortunately for any Canadians in the audience (myself included), our release date isn’t until Thursday the 19th, so we have to wait two more days. However, a quick call into a few gaming stores has revealed that some of them are breaking that promise and they will start selling Street Fighter IV for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 tomorrow (Wednesday). I can see the lines forming now…

Oh, and as I mentioned yesterday

Still the cheapest place to pre-order Street Fighter IV (for Canadians) is on Amazon. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game are up for grabs at $59.99, including free shipping. Other retailers are selling it for $70. You can also step up to the PS3 Collector’s Edition or the Xbox 360 Collector’s Edition if you prefer, but Street Fighter IV on PC is, by far, the cheapest option at $44.99.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is Out!

super street fighter ii turbo hd remix

The day has finally arrived! We first heard about Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix more than a year ago and it was supposed to be ready for public consumption well before today, but hey, better late than never! If you’re ready to relive some of the greatest fighting game moments from the 90s but in glorious re-imagined high-definition graphics and with some nifty gameplay tweaks, you’ll want to make sure you have the virtual cash kicking around to pick up this title.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (or SSF2THDR for short… an acronym that needs an acronym of its own) is available as of today for the PlayStation 3 via the PSN Store for $14.99. Xbox 360 owners, like myself, will have to wait until tomorrow to find the fighting game with the world’s longest title on Xbox Live Marketplace. It’ll sell there for 1200 Microsoft Points, which is effectively the same price as the PS3 version.

There are supposed to be a few minor tweaks to the game to balance out the gameplay. Some people are saying that Dhalsim has been “nerfed”, whereas Chun-Li gains the improvement of an arching spinning bird kick. You know that upside spinning kick that she does? It’s now an arch to jump over fireballs rather than strictly a horizontal move.

I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty stoked. It’ll be crazy fun to play online and get schooled by people half my age. If you want to challenge me to a match on Xbox Live, you can find me there with Gamertag HadoukenOnline.
