Street Fighter IV News Updates

street fighter iv - dan hibiki

There’s so much going on in the world of Street Fighter IV, especially since we’re inching that much closer to the fighting game’s release on home consoles. Let’s round it all up so we can all stay up to date on Street Fighter IV news.

Release Date

A little while ago, Yoshi Ono said that Street Fighter IV would be ready for home consoles “this winter,” but he didn’t get any more specific than that. It would be wishful thinking to assume that he meant the game would hit the Xbox 360 and PS3 in time for Santa Claus, of course, so should we be expecting an early ‘09 release?

Well, more recent information is pointing toward a February release. I can live with that. We’ve waited for years for an official sequel to Street Fighter III, so a couple more months isn’t going to kill us. It’s only going to frustrate us.

New Character Info

We already know that Sheng Long (Gouken) will be in the game and you can see the fireball master facing off against Akuma (Gouki) in the screenshot above.

A whole whack of screenshots have also been released of the new challengers in Street Fighter IV, including Cammy, Gen, Fei Long, Sakura, and our amazingly useless friend Dan Hibiki. Bruce Lee Fei Long looks particularly impressive.

The other major introduction is a a new boss character named Seth. He’s positively epic with his special moves, including one super move where he inhales his opponent in a vortex, blasting him out to the other end of the arena. The look on Guile’s face as he smushes up against the display is priceless.

More Street Fighter News

Unfortunately, I haven’t had a chance to actually play Street Fighter IV yet, because my local arcade doesn’t import an arcade cabinet. I know. Sucks to be me. At least I’ll know which characters are best when I do get to play the game. A highly unscientific battle array has been drawn up and Sagat is, one again, declared the supreme being of Street Fighter based on his win-loss record against the other fighters.

Since we have to wait until February to get Street Fighter IV, it’s good news that Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is finished and it’s slated for release this month on Xbox Live and PSN. Pricing hasn’t been announced, but I’m pretty sure I’m getting it at almost any price.

Do you remember Street Fighter: The Later Years? Well, the guys behind the project have just signed on to make a television series out of it. Zangief is leading the project and he discusses the new Street Fighter Reunion (that’s what it’s called) TV show in the interview clip embedded below.

Street Fighter IV: Fei Long and Dan Confirmed

It seems like the roster for Street Fighter IV is going to contain more than Street Fighter II originals and a few fresh faces. Capcom is reaching into other areas of the franchise as well.

There was a report earlier today that the home versions of Street Fighter IV will contain exclusive characters that will not appear in the arcade version of the game. It turns out that at least two of these exclusive fighters have been confirmed. Fighting game enthusiasts will be glad to hear that Fei Long and Dan Hibiki will be joining the cast for Street Fighter IV: Home Edition.

Given that the home versions of Street Fighter IV — destined for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC — will also come with online play, it should be a blast to see how well people will be able to compete using Dan Hibiki against the rest of the formidable Street Fighter IV crew.

Street Fighter IV Consoles Confirmed: Xbox 360, PS3, and PC

Street Fighter IV

Capcom has already provided some indication as to the release date of Street Fighter IV, but that information is largely for the arcade version of the game. When and where will be able to play this highly anticipated fighting game at home? Well, a great tidbit of information has been officially announced.

It has been confirmed that Street Fighter IV will be coming to the Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3, and the Windows PC. The first two were fully expected, given their high processing power and relatively large user bases, but we didn’t expect that Street Fighter IV to make its way to the computer world.

I think it’s for the best that Capcom isn’t bringing this fighting game to the Wii. It just wouldn’t fit, methinks.
