Rock, Talim, Yoshimitsu Will Be Back for Soul Calibur IV

And so the Soul Calibur IV roster expands just little, offering us three veteran heroes for our weapon-wielding battle needs. Now that you’re done staring at Cassandra’s breasts (you are done staring, aren’t you?), you can turn your attention to a pair of outlandish characters and one sweet little girl who will have no problem kicking your ass with some serious tonfa action.
Three of the returning characters for Soul Calibur IV, from left to right (above), are Rock, Talim, and everyone’s favorite stand-on-my-head or sit-on-my-ass battler Yoshimitsu. I’ve never been a huge fan of Rock and his giant mace/hammer thing, but I’m totally digging the inclusion of Soulcalibur veteran Talim. She is easily my favorite female character from the series, largely because she’s so quick and she has awesomely easy high-low combo attack. And then there’s Yoshimitsu. He’s just weird.
I wonder who else is going to get included. We already know about Darth Vader and Yoda in Soul Calibur 4. Let’s just hope that they don’t go and toss Jar Jar Binks in there too. Anyways, Famitsu has more pictures of Rock, Talim, and Yoshimitsu, if you’d like to check them out.
King of Fighters XII – PS3, Xbox 360, Arcade

Taken from SNK-Capcom.com:
For those lucky enough to attend AOU 2008 on February 16th, SNK Playmore JP and Taito will be displaying King of Fighters XII (Twelve) in video format. KOF XII has been in production for the longest amount of time, compared to any other King of Fighters produced and rightfully so, as SNK Playmore JP decided to start from scratch with a new game engine and completely overhaul the sprites.
King of Fighters XII will first be displayed on Taito’s Type X² and later ported to Sony’s PS3 in 2009, with a possible release on the Xbox 360 in the same year. Tentatively, expect the Taito Type X² release of KOF XII in June/July of 2008.

All we can say is…be prepared…to be amazed.
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix Get Newbie Mode

As a die-hard Street Fighter II fan, this comes as some rather depressing news. It turns out that Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, destined for Xbox Live via the Xbox 360, is going to be made a little more friendly for newbies and novices by way of a new control scheme and an “evening out” of abilities.
There are certain special moves that have typically been difficult to execute consistently on a controller d-pad. People who can pull off Zangief’s screw piledriver on a consistent basis are relative gods in the world of fighting games. Sagat’s Tiger Knee can also be a bit of a challenge, because that of that stupid up-forward angle that finishes the control stick rotation. As such, the people working on SSF2THDR (what an acronym!) are including a control scheme that makes those moves easier. The details are still sketchy, but I imagine it’d be like the alternative scheme found in Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO for the GameCube. All you had to do was tilt the C-stick in a certain direction to do a move. Forward was a hadouken, up was a shoryuken, etc. Lame. Utterly and completely lame.
I hope they don’t make it that easy. I guess making Street Fighter more accessible to newbies is a good thing, but it sure minimizes the pride in being an elite player. I’m also not completely sure what this means:
There’s more than a handful of changes to the controls, as “top tier” characters have been slightly nerfed for tournament play. In turn, some underpowered characters have been given a bit of a boost.
So, E. Honda suddenly gains a fireball and Ryu’s fireball doesn’t reach the end of the scrren, or something? WTF. I’ll say it again: Lame. Utterly and completely lame. Am I alone here?
